CKUA Summer: Waynestock and Calgary’s ReggaeFest

CKUA Summer

The days are getting slightly shorter, the nights a little cooler but summer’s not over yet! CKUA Summer rolls on, bringing you the best of summertime music in Alberta.

Next up, we’ve got Waynestock, an eclectic, grassroots music and arts festival in Wayne, AB, and the high-energy, colourful ReggaeFest in Calgary.

Learn more about these fun fests with our festival previews.

Waynestock: Who doesn’t want to go to a music festival in funky little hamlet Wayne, AB? Waynestock runs August 29-31 and features three stages surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Dinosaur Valley. Hosted by historic hotel, the Last Chance Saloon, the fest brings in 50 artists and all kinds of genres, from blues to roots to rock.

Listen in to Thoroughfare, Thursday, August 21, 2-3pm MT as Tony King gives us a sneak peek of what to expect.

The current owners of the hotel, Paula Sutherland and Dave Arsenault, will be joining Tony to shed light on how this incredible event, celebrating its 11th anniversary, came about. They will also provide a little bit of history, even explaining where those bullet holes in the hotel’s walls came from.

Tony will also chat with a few of the artists performing at Waynestock this year, including Kayla Williams & the Yacht Daddies, plus the band The Sour Patch Men.

ReggaeFest: Listen in Monday, August 25, 7-8pm MT to Catch and Release when host Kerry Clarke shares a preview of this vibrant, exciting festival in Calgary.

Kerry will talk to ReggaeFest co-founder Leo Cripps and artist Glen Washington. You’ll also hear plenty of music straight from the fest’s line-up. ReggaeFest celebrates the best of reggae music and Caribbean culture, August 29-30 at The Rise, St. Patrick’s Island.
