CKUA Summer: Fringe, Pride, and String Quartets

CKUA Summer

August has so much on the go, and we are loving all of it. CKUA Summer has all the coverage, in person and on the air.

The 44th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival returns August 14 – 24 to the heart of Old Strathcona. CKUA will be there, to help you explore theatre, music, street performers, family fun, and more.

CKUA will have a tent at the Fringe site Friday, Aug 15 and Wednesday, Aug 20, with stickers and other swag to give away. We hope you will visit us and say hi!

Plus, we’ll be sharing cool tunes when CKUA provides the playlist for the north beer tent and the wine tent all week long. Be sure to stop by when we’re set up there on Saturday, Aug 23.

We’re also sponsoring the FREE music series in ATB Park on the Fringe site. Enjoy concerts by Donita Large & The Small Band, Bad Buddy, Ben Sures, Kaeley Jade, Aladean Kheroufi, Kuzi Cee, Tzadeka, and Mercy Funk. Find all the details here.

P.S. Did you miss Tony King‘s conversation with Fringe Festival historian, Gerald Osborn? Listen now!

We also have some great festival previews airing this week.

Banff International String Quartet Competition: The world’s finest young string quartets will compete for over $500,000 CAD in cash, prizes, and career development opportunities. It’s high stakes for them, and beautiful music for us! Join Aaron Au, who will preview this festival during Classical Connections, Saturday, August 16 at 7am.

Pride: Will you be at Pride celebrations in Edmonton and/or Calgary this month? Hear Kate Stevens’ preview hour about these community LGBTQ+ celebrations. Tune in to The Upload, Tuesday, August 19 at noon.
