It’s one of the busiest weeks of the summer for festival fun. CKUA Summer has all the coverage, in person and on the air!
We’ll be on the ground at the Calgary Folk Music Festival, which takes place July 24 – 27 on Prince’s Island Park in the heart of the city. What a joy it is to partner with this iconic festival. Find the CKUA tent, and enjoy some music from the CKUA stage! We’d love to meet you, and we will have new CKUA merch for sale. Here are our plans:
Thursday, July 24:
- interviews from the CKUA tent
Friday, July 25:
- Traffic Jams, hosted by Lisa Wilton, will be broadcast live from the festival site. Tune in from 3pm – 6pm MT.
Saturday, July 26:
- Live broadcast from the CKUA tent, hosted by Amy van Keeken and Kate Stevens, 1pm – 3pm MT.
- Interviews from the CKUA tent throughout the day
- Live-to-air broadcast from the ATB Main Stage at Calgary Folk Fest, 8:50pm – 10pm MT. Los Lobos will bring Chicano Rock to the people, and CKUA will broadcast it to the world! Formed by high school friends in Los Angeles in the 1970s, Los Lobos have been delivering Mexican and American folk, R&B, and rock to audiences for decades. Don’t miss this epic live broadcast.
- Following that, continue to tune in from 10:15pm – 11:30pm MT for Steve Earle and Reckless Kelly. With his steadfast following and over 30 million albums sold worldwide, hardcore troubadour Steve Earle needs little introduction. He’s played arenas, festivals and intimate clubs while releasing 21 studio albums. He’ll be performing with Reckless Kelly, an Americana/Outlaw Country powerhouse band that has been burning up stages with their high-energy blend of rock and country music since 1996. Fronted by central Idaho natives Willy and Cody Braun, the brothers are part of a rich musical legacy that spans three generations. Be sure to tune in!
Sunday, July 27:
- Folk Routes live broadcast from the CKUA tent, hosted by Tom Coxworth, 11am – 1pm MT
