We’re looking for two talented summer students to work in CKUA’s historic music library and our archive. Check below for details and how to apply

 

Archives Assistant (Summer Student)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Collect information that can be used to inform collection management decisions; establish and guide processing priorities; facilitate selection and other activities associated with digitization and processing preparation; and ensure our readiness for opportunities of all kinds, especially funding.

Other duties
Under the supervision of the Library Technician, the Archives Assistant will assess both audio visual records and 20th century archival records; draft descriptive finding aids; prioritize work by consulting with collection stakeholders; assist in development of metadata protocols; evaluate the condition of sound recordings, video recordings, and paper documents.

WHO YOU ARE

Current post-secondary student in Museum Studies, Archival Studies, Library Sciences, or a related field, who will be returning to school in the Fall Semester.

A collaborative spirit, and forward-thinking and inquisitive mindset. You’re a highly motivated team player who can make recommendations on best practices and developing plans for success.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to remain focused.
  • Familiarity with museum and archival best practices.
  • Previous experience working in a museum or archival setting an asset.
  • Meet all STEP guidelines for employment

Library Assistant (Summer Student)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Provide active support in the CKUA Music Library, specifically relating to the ongoing digitization of new music, organizing and cataloguing music, and basic research.

Other duties
Under the supervision of the Library Technician, the Library Assistant will digitize and catalogue new incoming releases into CKUA’s Archive Database.; e dit records in the catalogue to correct errors; help with prioritizing upwards of 100 new release albums incoming each week; learn about and ultimately work on creating and reporting the weekly Top 30 Chart.

Current post-secondary student in Library Sciences, or a related field, who will be returning to school in the Fall Semester.

  • Anticipated start May 27, 2019 to August 23, 2019 (12 weeks total)
  • $16.00 hourly rate, 30 hours per week
