Learn more about this festival with our on-air preview:
Flying Canoë Volant | January 28-31 | Edmonton
Flying Canoë Volant is a creative and interactive cultural festival nestled in Edmonton’s beautiful Mill Creek Ravine and the French Quarter. It is inspired by the legend of The Flying Canoe (or La Chasse-galerie), which paints the story of a group of hapless lumberjacks pining to get back home to their sweethearts. This festival is a bold celebration of French Canadian, First Nations and Métis traditions.
Tony King will bring you a virtual walk-through of the festival on the Tuesday, January 20 edition of Thoroughfare, through conversations with the organizers and creators who make this world-renowned festival possible. Featured guests include Virginie Rainville an interdisciplinary artist whose illuminated found object sculptures take your breath away. Tony will also welcome Daniel Gervais, and acclaimed fiddler playing at the otherworldly Franco Dome, and Lance Cardinal, who will provide a first-hand take on the Indigenous experience as it relates to the legend of the Flying Canoe.
