Friday, July 4 is Stampede parade day in Calgary. It’s also a day when Kate Stevens will be hosting Alberta Morning live from The Calgary Foundation CKUA Studio.
That’s right on the parade route! We asked Kate, a born-and-raised Calgarian, what she loves about Stampede, and what she loves about parade day.
The first thing she said about guest-hosting Alberta Morning on that day is, “It might be loud! During Alberta Morning, the show bands will all walk past us as they get ready to join the parade.” So you’ve been warned, radio listeners. You might hear trumpets, bass drums, and even bagpipes during Kate’s talk breaks on July 4!

Kate’s ready for anything, and she has a great history of Stampede joy. “When we were kids, my mom would dress us up to hit every pancake breakfast we could find.” She appreciates Stampede in new ways now that she’s an adult. “I play shows now, but I also still go for fun.”
She adds, “There’s nothing like the energy of Stampede in Calgary. It brings people together in the most joyful way. You can see people who just moved here in full western gear. It’s such a celebration.”
You have to be downtown early to get a good spot at the parade. So while you’re waiting for the parade to start, have some fun with Kate, and with CKUA. You can text song requests to 1-800-494-2582. You can also text photos of you in your Western wear. We’d love to see—and share—some epic outfits.
CKUA staff and hosts will swing the doors wide open at the The Calgary Foundation CKUA Studio on Friday, July 4, during the Stampede parade. They’ll have stickers, pins, and freezies to hand out. They’d love to meet and greet you, so do stop by!
We asked Kate what might be on the playlist on July 4, and she mentioned this crowd favourite:
