Calgary Studio Transformation

News

“Transforming the CKUA Calgary Foundation Studio into a joyful, creative space has been vital for us. It has radically transformed the way we engage daily within the studio space as a team, and allowed our presence in Calgary to evolve in ways that will benefit the greater community for years to come,” says Jodi Lucas, Senior Development Officer at CKUA. Jodi was at the centre of CKUA’s studio transformation project, made possible by an Aspiration Grant from the Rozsa Foundation.

Visitors are now greeted in a colourful atmosphere, with show posters, notable framed records and vintage musical instruments on the walls. The space is also more cohesive within the context of the National Music Centre. Guests attending events and performances in the Calgary studio will enjoy improved experience thanks to new AV equipment, facilitating both streamed and in-person events. Our Content staff are also equipped with portable recording gear so they can capture the dynamism of Alberta’s arts and culture scene, out in the field.

“We wanted something that would express the character of CKUA,” says CKUA CEO Marc Carnes. “When visitors arrive at the studio, they get a feel for the history, breadth, and connection to community that are uniquely CKUA, complete with an inviting atmosphere that says, “You’re welcome here with us.””

Community foundations have provided support for CKUA projects over the years. The Calgary Foundation CKUA Studio bears the name of the organization that saw the value of a CKUA presence in downtown Calgary and contributed to make that happen. The Edmonton Community Foundation has provided essential support for equipment upgrades like computers, and funded the sign outside the Alberta Hotel that tells the world this is the home of CKUA. We thank the Rozsa Foundation team for their support of this studio transformation project.

As we look forward to CKUA’s centenary in 2027, we are excited about celebrating at our transformed Calgary studio. We’re so grateful to all the community organizations and people who see the value of CKUA and invest in its future.
