Acquired Taste Tea is a beloved Edmonton business, supplying its special, handmade tea blends locally and across Canada since 1996.
Owner Tasha Weenk is a longtime CKUA supporter and has connected to new customers through CKUA advertisements for years.
Now we’re excited to announce a new partnership: Acquired Taste Tea is sponsoring Twilight, in addition to also supporting the 8:30am weather report on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We asked Weenk to tell us more about this partnership and also the teas she has steaming in her china cups these days.
We’ll start with a very important question. What tea are you drinking right this moment and why?
Strawberry Black tea. It’s a comfort tea for me, and brings me back to childhoods moments drinking tea with my older sister.
Thank you for supporting CKUA! You’ve been working with us for years. What do you love about CKUA?
CKUA is always new, always old, always fresh and always familiar. It is ALL about community and supporting one another. There’s nothing else quite like CKUA and I love the originality that it always brings.
The approach to your ads is fun and creative: enlivening, caffeinated tea suggestions for mornings, and soothing decaf teas for the evening hours. What are your personal favourite teas, and why?
Personal favourite morning tea is Assam Gingia. It is bold, smooth, perfect with a small splash of milk. Evening tea for me is either a personal blend of Peppermint and Spearmint (lovingly rebranded as Speppermint) or Rooibos Roasted Almond if I want a touch of sweetness in the evening.
We know you are a music lover. What’s your favorite energizing song for the morning and your favorite relaxing song for the evening?
My current favorite energizing song for the morning is a cover of “Dancing on My Own” by the Arkells or “I’ve Got a Need for You” by David Ruffin. Favorite night time song is “Subtle Blues” by May Erlewine. Or “Hinoki” Wood by Gia Margaret. Too hard to pick just one.
As we start thinking about December, is there an item in your shop that you particularly recommend as a fun, locally-sourced gift?
Also hard to choose one! So here’s three:
Edbroidmenton Kits – handmade by Murriel Mapa. Embroidery kits that feature Edmonton favorite locations like the Garneau Theatre and High Level Bridge.
Paint by Layers Craft Kits – by Our Little Makery in Strathmore. Easy painting shadow boxes that are fun for all ages.
Villager Puzzles – Canadian made puzzles, with artwork by Canadian women artists who get a royalty from every puzzle sold. All go great with a wonderful pot of tea!
