CKUA has an important announcement to share with our community. Marc Carnes, who has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2017, is leaving CKUA.
Marc has been a distinctive and visionary leader during his time with the organization. He has transformed a nearly-100-year-old broadcaster into Alberta’s leading media organization. CKUA’s current role in sharing diverse and original music, arts, and culture programming is unique in Alberta, Canada, and the world.
Incoming Board Chair Kathy Milani says, “Marc’s desire to step away from CKUA comes after eight years of dedicated service, and we fully support him as he embarks on his next chapter. CKUA’s Board of Directors and leadership team are deeply grateful for Marc’s leadership and contributions.” Here is the full CKUA Board statement:

Marc’s hard work and influence at CKUA are remarkable. CKUA has a strong foundation and a bright future because of his leadership in challenging times. We have big plans to celebrate and thank him, and we invite you to be a part of them. For starters, tune in to Alberta Morning on Wednesday, September 10 starting at 8am MT when host Grant Stovel will welcome Marc to the studio for a special program that includes music and conversation.
“I’ve always enjoyed being Grant’s guest during my time at CKUA,” says Carnes. “It’s an opportunity to connect with our community, and now it’s going to be a time to reflect and share memories.”
