5 Questions with BIG SIS

Five Questions

Liverpool sibling duo BIG SIS burst onto the music scene in 2020. Their unique pop sound has led critics to call them “cheeky,” “playful,” and “uncompromising.” We asked Baby (the brother) and Babie (the sister) about their approach to music.

How did you make the decision to become a sibling musical group?

It was less of a decision and more of a happy accident. We were stoned one day and decided to make a song for fun. We loved it and gave it to our big sister as a Christmas gift (which is why we’re called BIG SIS). After Christmas, on a layover in Nashville, we wrote our next song “Promptness” and it was received really well, so we just kept going and here we are.

Does it get confusing for people that you are called Baby and Babie?

People are usually shocked and delighted that we’re both named Baby and Babie, but they get used to it quickly. We label our sound equipment “Girl” and “Boy” because sound people are usually confused about everything. So that helps them out.

There are so many great musical groups that include siblings. Do you have a favourite?

No. We’re our favourite.

What do you love about touring and what do you hate about it?

Love about touring: fans, free stuff, hotel gyms, being hot.

Hate about touring: early travel days, bad food, dry skin.

What can people expect at your Winterruption YEG show in Edmonton?

Tell the people to expect to lose their minds and gain their souls. And if they aren’t dancing and freaking out they don’t get it.
