Using naturalistic materials and textures, the Esker Foundations latest artist Yvonne Kustec, uses the medium of clay in her new exhibit The Garden.
By blending clay and synthetic hair, the human figure is covered in various flora and fauna. The Garden is available for viewing on the lower level facing 9th Avenue.
CKUA’s Kate Stevens sat down with the artist to talk about her inspirations, transformation and healing.
Here’s a brief interview addendum that Yvonne Kustec shared with us:
“I speak from my own perspective, as a woman, through the work that I make, but I focused solely on connecting to other women in my response. Now, I would like to add that I hope anyone can connect to the work regardless of gender as so many people have their own experiences with transformation as well as a connection to nature and beyond that make their own personal and wonderful connections to the work. I didn’t want it to seem like the work is only meant to connect to other women.” – Yvonne Kustec
