Visual artist Zachari Logan explores flora, land, the body, and gender at the Esplande

Interview

A new art exhibition called Outgrowth, by acclaimed Regina-based visual artist, Zachari Logan, is using flora to challenge society’s gender norms and expectations.

The new exhibition at Medicine Hat’s Esplande consists of various flora-inspired pastel drawings and ceramic sculptures. Each piece symbolically conveys the connection between land and the human body.

Employing a strategy of visual quotation, mined from place and experience, Logan re-wilds his body as a queer embodiment of nature. This narrative shift engages ideas of beauty, empirical explorations of landscape and overlapping art-historic motifs.

Outgrowth will run at The Esplanade in Medicine Hat until November 13. For more information visit esplanade.ca.
