Edmonton-based poet Nisha Patel kicked off her career as an author with her debut book of poetry entitled Coconut. Since that time, she has won innumerable awards as a Slam Poetry artist and spokesperson for queer, disabled and marginalized individuals.
The remarkable Nisha Patel is appearing at NEXTfest for three nights, commencing on June 2. This time she brings her searing one-woman show to the boards of the Lorne Cardinal Theatre. The performance is entitled A Fate Worse Than Death and showcases the author’s internal wrestling match with personal demons – both physical and mental. As the story unfolds, Patel questions the legitimacy of happy endings and the redemptive qualities of the journey of life.
