The first Monica Miller Memorial Lecture with Jane Urquhart

Interview

Beloved CKUA Host/Producer Monica Miller was all about music, radio, and community. But she also had a deep, lifelong passion for books, particularly for literature written by women. Heartbreakingly, Monica passed away in 2019; however, a new lecture series named in her honour is just about to begin.

The Monica Miller Memorial Lecture is designed to be free and accessible to all, with the express aim of amplifying the voices of women in literature. The inaugural edition of the series takes place at 5:30 PM on Thursday, October 13th, in Room 5-142 of MacEwan University’s City Centre Campus in Edmonton. Delivering the first-ever Monica Miller Memorial Lecture is one of the Canadian literary scene’s very brightest lights, a Governor General’s Award winner and a Member of the Order of CanadaJane Urquhart.

Dr. Jane Urquhart joins Grant Stovel on Thursday morning to talk about women’s voices in Canadian literature; how reading can help us understand each other better; and her own remarkable road as the author of globally-acclaimed novels, short stories, poems, and a biography of past CanLit great, L.M. Montgomery. Tune in for a conversation with the brilliant Jane Urquhart at 8:45 (MT) on Thursday’s Alberta Morning!
