It’s a gold record! Kind of. At least, it’s a brand-new album made possible by some gold found in a dresser drawer.
Throughout his vast musical experiences in jazz, funk, folk, classical and beyond, Calgary musician and composer Daniel Pelton has always kept in mind a lesson he learned from his hero, Frank Zappa: that the gold standard for any musical creator is a connection with their audience. With that in mind, he wrote a fun, eclectic, and accessible series of original chamber and solo works, to be recorded with a wild array of musicians from across the Calgary scene.
Daniel recently popped in on Grant Stovel to tell us about The Daniel Pelton Collective‘s original chamber music debut, The Gold Coin Sessions.
