Sophia Lebessis shares her vast knowledge of Inuit art during ATB’s Indigenous Market

Interview

June 21, 2020 marks National Indigenous People’s Day in Canada. To shine a spotlight on Indigenous artists, ATB Financial is launching the Alberta Indigenous Artist Market. This initiative is designed to give a platform to creative individuals to sell their products and, in doing so, gain access to much-needed capital during this challenging time. The market will feature four vendors, and more than 20 artists.

Calgary’s Transformation Fine Art is one of the four organizations taking part. Transformation Fine Art specializes in Master Works of Inuit and First Nations art, is an individually tailored experience for a variety of collectors with any budget. Sophia also appraises, consults on private collections, and welcomes speaking engagements on her life in Canada’s art scene.

Sophia Lebessis, owner of Transformation Fine Art, joined Grant Stovel to share more about the online market:

Along with being one of the four vendors featured in the ATB Alberta Indigenous Artist Market, Transformation Fine Art is exhibiting their collection TERRITORIAL at the ATB Branch for Arts and Culture in Calgary.

On June 22, 2018, Sophia spoke at TEDxYYC. This talk is an abstract for her documentary on Inuit art, currently in the development phase. She is the first Inuk to speak in TEDx history.
