Rayanne Haines uses writing for connection and empowerment

The Metro Federation of Libraries recently announced Rayanne Haines as the 2022 Regional Writer in Residence for Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan, and St. Albert Libraries.

Rayanne is an accomplished author who has published seven books, including three poetry collections. Her artistic practice focuses primarily on empowering women’s narratives, with much of her current work focusing on mental health and intergenerational female trauma.

Her debut Novel in Verse, Stained with the Colours of Sunday Morning, was a finalist for the Canadian Authors Association Exporting Alberta Award in 2019. Rayanne brings her varied experience as a writer and educator to her new role, as she works to mentor writers of all skill levels across three different libraries. Rayanne joined CKUA’s Tony King to discuss her new position and what she hopes to accomplish while in the role.
