To try and sculpt words to describe the magnetic powers of poet Titilope Sonuga would be a fool’s errand as her work is so emotionally riveting it plays out like music.
Titilope Sonuga’s investment in poetry, spoken word and recording have earned her an audience with the President of Nigeria, contracts with the Bill & Melina Gates Foundation and more. The embodiment of resilience and fierce female energy, the power of Titilope Sonuga’s poems explore the paradoxes of being a black woman navigating through the beauty and the mysteries of life.
Titilope Sonuga’s latest project is called OPEN, and it fuses live music from MELAFRIQUE, the Key 30 Orchestra, plus spoken word into a cocktail of spirited magic.
The show has wowed audiences around the world and touches down in Edmonton at the Triffo Theatre on the MacEwan University campus on Saturday. But before that Edmonton’s 9th Poet Laureate joined Tony King on Thoroughfare.
