Have you ever looked at something and asked, “How did they do that?” CKUA’s newest feature, “The How of Wow,” highlights marvels of innovation and technology that are all around us. The stuff Engineers and Geoscientists create can be beautiful, sometimes even iconic, but it has to work.

Plane waves and circular waves, like trying to surf in contradictory currents, can be frustrating and in some cases down right disastrous. The Ranchlands hum has been our focus for the last couple of episodes: we’ve talked about isolating it, where it might be coming from, but what can one do about this annoying beast the won’t be tamed. Dr. Mike Smith from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Calgary offers his insights:
