Photojournalist Saiyna Bashir explores ‘Women and Migration’

Interview

Women and Migration, the newest in the National Geographic Live Virtual series presented by Arts Commons, is very special.

Three women photojournalists chronicle their journey into a profession that is dangerous, dominated by males and requires amazing resilience as they capture complex relationships infused with economic and political conflict.

One of those journalists is Saiyna Bashir, a photographer based in Pakistan who has covered diverse events including Black Lives Matter protests in the United States to violence perpetrated against women in her native Pakistan.

Recently, CKUA’s Tony King chatted with Saiyna Bashir about how she got into the profession and what it means to be a woman in a time of transition.
