Emerging Calgary playwright Kris Vanessa Teo has recently developed her first play focusing on her experiences navigating the two wildly different cultures she was brought up in, addressing the stereotypes that have been placed upon her.
我的名是张欣恩 (Gimme Chance Leh) focuses on Teo’s experiences growing up between Calgary and Singapore, and explores belonging, prejudice, and beauty standards. Calgary’s Chromatic Theatre recently produced an audio version of the production. The play is now featured as part of a performance residency event on May 20, coinciding with Asian Heritage Month.
