Edmonton’s festival featuring works of women in the arts, SkirtsAFire, is making a triumphant return for its 10th anniversary.
Premiering as SkirtsAFire’s Main Stage production, Ayita, by Teneil Whiskeyjack, shares a profound journey of healing and liberation. It’s a modern-day creation story that showcases Indigenous realities through a blend of theatre and contemporary Indigenous dance.
The world premiere of Ayita takes place on March 3 at the Westbury Theatre and will run until March 13. Teneil Whiskeyjack, the play’s creator and lead, recently joined CKUA’s Lisa Wilton to discuss the play, while looking ahead to the upcoming SkirtsAFire festival:
