On Theatre: One Yellow Rabbit presents “She Sat Down and Wept”

Interview

One Yellow Rabbit is returning to the stage after a successful run of the High Performance Rodeo. The Calgary-based theatre company is excited to present a new work from the beautifulyoungartists ensemble.

Featuring a cast entirely made up of Calgary’s emerging artists, She Sat Down and Wept is set to hit the Arts Commons stage for a one-night-only performance on June 25 in the Big Secret Theatre. The new work, created and directed by Denise Clarke, is based on Elizabeth Smart‘s 1945 prose poem By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept.

The text from which this play draws its inspiration is famously known for capturing the raw passion and resultant heartbreak of a young couple caught in a love affair. Denise Clarke’s re-envisioning of the timeless poem proves that the messages of the complexity of love still can resonate with audiences today. On Thoroughfare, CKUA’s Kate Stevens brought us more on the upcoming performance in this conversation with Denise Clarke:
