Just in time for Mother’s Day, Red Deer author Sabrina Samuel has penned She Was, a collection of poems dedicated to 40 women in her life.
“The poems are easy and inhabitable,” says Samuel. “Unifying, but still true depictions of flawed humans, the first poem is of a Cree elder who holds a lot of the women in ceremony around here and she says, ‘My husband loves me even when I’m all four seasons in one day.’ That’s a poem unto itself.”
A portion of the funds for She Was helps other women and non-binary folks access services through the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Centre.
