On Film: Candace Makowichuk and Justin Kueber share more about the Local Heroes Film Festival

Interview

Representing the diaspora of the Black experience through the moving image, the Local Heroes Film Festival presents an event at the Stanley Milner Library in Edmonton on February 23.

This event features seven short films on a diverse variety of subjects. From a story that takes a deep dive into a city that has been called “the Blade Runner of the tropics,” to the peeling back of layers through a touching dialogue between a blind man and his granddaughter, these movies speak not only to the Black experience, but to what it is to be human.

Tony King spoke with Candace Makowichuk, Executive Director of the Edmonton Short Film Festival, which produces the Local Heroes Film Festival’s celebration of Black History Month. Tony also chatted with Justin Kueber about his film Black and Blue.
