On Dance: The Nutcracker includes new confections

Interview

Alberta Ballet‘s beloved holiday tradition comes with a whole new assortment of sweet treats for the 2022 production.

It just wouldn’t be the holiday season here in this part of the world without the beloved Alberta Ballet adaptation of The Nutcracker, which runs this month in both Edmonton and Calgary. This year’s version of the program features a new, tasty twist in Act 2!

The “international dances” from the second act have been renamed: they are now Caramel, Marzipan, Peppermint, and Popcorn. Audiences will also be treated to new lavish costumes and choreography, adding some fresh flavour to this time-tested holiday favourite.

Grant Stovel was recently joined by none other than Edmund Stripe, the celebrated choreographer who first created the festive Alberta Ballet Nutcracker back in 2008, and who is the candy man behind the new confections and choreography for 2022.
