One of Alberta’s own recently won the Gerald Lampert Memorial Poetry Award! It’s an extremely prestigious prize handed out annually to an outstanding first book of poetry by a Canadian.
Whitemud Walking is the much-acclaimed first book by Edmonton-based Dene/Metis poet Matthew James Weigel. Not only is this book by someone from this part of the world, but it’s also very much inspired by Matthew’s feeling of connection to the land – as well as the extremely troubling relationship between the land, our treaties, ourselves, and our collective society. Matthew James Weigel joined CKUA‘s Grant Stovel on the June 1 , 2023 edition of Alberta Morning.
