Interview

The Art Gallery of Alberta is featuring the work of renowned Icelandic contemporary artist Hrafnhildur Arnardottir, better known as Shoplifter, and part of their new ROYGBIV exhibition.

The New York-based artist is known for her work creating sculptures, wall murals, and site-specific installations using synthetic and natural hair.

Her vibrant, colourful, playful, and visually-arresting work has been featured around the world, including in the MoMA in New York. She’s also collaborated with Björk on hair sculptures worn by the singer during her performances.

On Alberta Morning on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, Grant Stovel brought us more on Shoplifter’s work, which explores themes of vanity, self-image, fashion, beauty and popular myth.
