On Art: “Here I am – can you see me?”

Thousands of Indigenous children were lost to the Canadian residential school system. Artist George Littlechild pays tribute to those who died while attending a residential school in Maskwacis, Alberta, in his exhibition, Here I am – can you see me?

Littlechild features 22 drawings depicting Indigenous children. He says he wants to honour and validate the thousands of children who never made it out of residential schools. The exhibit is currently on at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and runs until July 11.
