On Art: Dylan Toymaker lights up Flying Canoë Volant

Interview

Lighting up the dark wintry depths of February in Alberta, Edmonton’s Flying Canoë Volant is a festival that celebrates French Canadian, First Nations, and Métis culture and history. On now through February 4th, it’s a free, family-focused and fully bilingual outdoor festival that provides a magical wintertime experience for all, thanks in part to the artwork created and curated by Dylan Toymaker.

Dylan is the renowned light design and installation artist who provides Flying Canoë Volant with the other-worldly light installations that transform Edmonton’s Mill Creek Ravine into a kaleidoscopic playground for the imagination.

Recently Dylan took a break from his ultra-busy week to join Grant Stovel and chat about what’s lighting up Flying Canoë Volant this year. He also shared more about a new dirigible/canoe/ornithopter piece that he’s particularly excited about, and a whole bunch more!
