Musician, Producer and Engineer Barry Allen passes away at 76

Interview

This week, Alberta’s music community mourns the loss of a local legend. Barry Allen passed away this past Saturday at the age of 76. Barry was a Canadian rock star in the ’60s for his solo recordings and his work with Wes Dakus & The Rebels – voted Canada’s best instrumental band several years running. He had spent the last 50 years of his career behind the board engineering, producing and mentoring artists at various studios including his own Homestead Recorders. Before his passing, Barry released his first solo record in more than 5 decades, titled Speed of Dark. This past January, he joined CKUA’s Holger Petersen in studio to discuss that album, his 50+ year career, and his insights into what it takes to successfully produce and engineer albums. You can listen to their entire conversation, above.
