Edmonton International Fringe Fest cancelled due to COVID-19

It is with a heavy heart that CKUA found out that another major festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. Set to kick off August 13th 2020, the 39th Edmonton International Fringe Festival is the latest in a growing list of festival cancellations.

“I don’t even know if I’ve started to grieve yet…”

Murray Utas, Artistic Director of the Edmonton International Fringe Festival

Murray shares a glimpse into finding a path to making it all work; from international travel, to local business, to public gathering, and so many other factors. Murray shares what went into the decision with Tony King.

With eyes on the future, the fringe will rise again! Utas and his team know that theatre will play an important role in healing and processing and understand the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Edmonton Fringe will continue to be home to creativity, risk, craft, and community – the 40th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is set to run August 12 – 22, 2021.
