Simone Schmidt, aka Fiver, discusses her latest album, Audible Songs from Rockwood, which draws inspiration from the history of the Rockwood Asylum for the Criminally Insane in Kingston, Ontario. Schmidt was drawn to writing about Rockwood after hearing of the stories of those incarcerated in the facility. Simone discusses a few of those stories, her academic research into the facility, the bias inherent in documenting history and her fear of committing some of the stories of the women involved to song.
