Braving Beauty Cabaret brings together Indigenous and African storytelling

Interview

Toyin Lamas is a provocateur who works in community engagement, and as a curator and artist. She’s also co-curator of the Braving Beauty Cabaret, which debuts virtually at Calgary’s Arts Commons on Sunday, July 11th at 7:00pm MT.

The production uncovers the connections between the Indigenous Nations of Treaty 7 with those of the African diaspora using dance, music, poetry, and movement. The Nigerian born artist spoke to CKUA’s Tony King about the project.

The Braving Beauty Cabaret is the latest in the TD Amplify Cabaret series. Tickets for this virtual event are free – just visit artscommons.ca
