Black in Alberta: How can we do better?

Feature

Throughout February, 2021,  CKUA’s Vish Khanna hosted a conversation series with black cultural creators on a range of issues.

These conversations touched on themes of discrimination, bias, exclusion, and the stereotypes black artists face while engaging in their craft in Alberta.

Vish’s guests included both artists who’ve chosen to establish careers in this province, and those who’ve moved to other parts of the country to make music. Below, hear thoughts from Yolanda Sargeant, Marcus Floats, Cadence Weapon, Yves Jarvis, and Arlo Maverickas they each respond to one question:

What can this province’s cultural institutions and gatekeepers do to improve the live and working experience for Black artists in Alberta?
