Ballet Edmonton’s Artistic Director Wen Wei Wang shares “Consentus”

Interview

Artistic Director Wen Wei Wang will be personally putting a pair of exclamations marks on Ballet Edmonton‘s 2022/23 season, with two of his creations being presented at this weekend’s season finale.

Ballet Edmonton is known for its strikingly athletic, innovative, and adventurous approach to dance, as well as a commitment to presenting new original works. Those strengths are all decidedly on display in Consentus. Running May 5th and 6th at MacEwan University’s Triffo Theatre in Edmonton, Consentus is comprised of two striking (and very different) pieces created by Wang.

Le Loup de Lafontaine features Wang’s interpretation of a Canadian true story/local folk legend, alongside new orchestral music by Toronto-based Metis composer Ian Cusson. Le Quattro is set to Max Richter’s “digitized postmodernist re-composition” of the perennial favourite, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. What could be better as a conclusion to the concert season than a piece that takes you through all four seasons, after all?

Wen Wei Wang joined CKUA’s Grant Stovel to talk Consentus on Alberta Morning.
