Balancing Acts, Wellness in the World of Circus

Notes on Wellness

Ever wonder what it’s like to build strength through stilts, puppets, and trapeze? Dean Bareham is the Artistic Director of Green Fools, a Calgary based circus company that blends movement, theatre, and play for kids and adults alike. Dean says circus arts can teach us about wellness, creativity, and even our own flexibility.

Dean is the Artistic Director and co-founder of Green Fools Theatre in Calgary. He began his studies at the Alberta College of Art & Design before attending the Dell’Arte School of Physical Theatre in Blue Lake, California. For the past twenty-eight years, Dean has delighted audiences across the globe with his buffoonery and stilt characters. His alter ego, Gustavo the Impossibilist, is infamous worldwide. Dean has performed and taught workshops throughout Canada, Europe, South America, Macedonia, New Zealand, Lesotho, Japan, and the USA. He has also performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, and Cirque du Soleil at the Luminato Festival in Toronto.
