Sook-Yin Lee, a multifaceted Canadian cultural figure, has directed the film Paying For It, adapted from her former partner Chester Brown’s autobiographical graphic novel. The film explores Brown’s experiences as a client of sex workers in Vancouver, featuring a character based on Lee herself. Before the film debuts in Alberta, Lee chats with CKUA’s Leo Cripps.

Dr. Alexander Oriaifo, a self-taught visual artist from Nigeria now in Calgary, is the Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation’s Artist of the Month for March. Inspired by a hyperrealist artist on Instagram, he honed his skills in hyperrealism while also working as an optometrist. His unique career allows him to draw inspiration from diverse individuals, which he will discuss with CKUA’s Lisa Wilton.

UNCEDED: Voices of the Land, an immersive audio-visual exhibition, highlights the contributions of 18 Indigenous architects envisioning a harmonious future with technology and nature. This project, led by renowned architect Douglas Cardinal, will be showcased in Edmonton’s City Centre. Douglas Cardinal will discuss the exhibition with CKUA’s Tony King.

Please Return to Empire Video is a coming-of-age play set in 2003, when DVDs had just surpassed VHS tapes. It follows three employees, Cass, Owen, and Thomas, as they tackle a chaotic shift of sorting and managing an influx of VHS tapes at a video store in Southern Alberta. Their mission is to complete their tasks in time to attend an advanced screening of The Matrix Reloaded. CKUA’s Kate Stevens brings us more.

Edmonton’s Bonnie Doon shopping centre will be transformed into a grand ballroom and art space for the Night of Artists Gala and Artwalk. The event features over 3,000 artworks by 160 artists, making it Canada’s largest indoor art walk. Proceeds from the gala will support Amy’s House, benefiting cancer patients and their families. The event’s founder, Phil Alain, will chat with CKUA’s Scott Zielsdorf.
