The Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation (ICAI) is taking a brief hiatus from the Artist of the Month program. However, the Calgary-based arts organization does far more than simply spotlight community artists. One of ICAI’s most successful offerings is the Immigrant Arts Mentorship Program (IAMP), recently renamed to the Newcomer Arts Professional Program (NAPP). The program exists to empower immigrant artists in Calgary by providing them with a mentor and the tools to promote themselves in Calgary’s arts scene.
Saxophonist Perpetual Awele Nwaefido a.k.a. “Perpie” is part of the first cohort to complete the newly revamped program. She joined CKUA’s Scott Zielsdorf to talk about her involvement in the mentor program and spotlight her upcoming concert.
