A multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, and actor, Paula Spurr is most at home communicating with and entertaining people. Music has always been a part of the fabric of her life, growing up as a preacher’s daughter in a musical home in small-town Alberta. Funnily enough, when she was about 12 she announced at the breakfast table that she wanted to be a DJ when she grew up…and her father stated firmly “That’s not a respectable job!”
Jokes on you, Dad! When Paula was out of college she had a show at UBC’s radio station for 6 years, and then worked at a commercial alternative station in Vancouver for 3 more. And now, after a hiatus of a mere 30 years, she is back into radio! She used that time in the interim to play in various bluegrass and honky tonk bands, perform solo as a singer/songwriter, raise her daughter, and work in the film/TV industry as an actor and background performer. When not listening to new music and discovering new bands, Paula loves to hit an old-time or bluegrass jam and play her guitar and mandolin for hours.
