Your Voice, Our Future: Bring the Outside In

Our community event #OutsideIn is taking place at the Sunalta Community Hub on Sunday, June 8. We are expecting 100-120 guests including local politicians and community organizations.
As part of the 15-week RISE Program with Apathy is Boring, our cohort organized a community project to support removing barriers for young people (18-30 years old) to partake in civic engagement, whether that’s through volunteering, community advocacy, and taking up space in political settings.
The program welcomes a new cohort bi-annually with chapters in major cities across Canada including Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa. We are the first cohort in Calgary!
During our research and deep canvassing with young people across our city, we’ve heard, overwhelmingly, that there is a lack of community in Calgary to find like-minded connections. Some of the common barriers included the lack of time, interest, but also the sentiments of feeling on the outside and being excluded.
Our event is meant to challenge these barriers as a starting point for youth in Calgary. Ultimately, our goal is to start the dialogue in a meaningful, engaging, and welcoming way. We hope you consider being part of our journey. If you’re able to help, we’d really appreciate a shoutout on air or on social media. Please let me know if this is possible, and thank you so much for your support!
