Winter Blues Syndrome

Many of us experience a mood shift during the colder, darker days of winter. After the excitement of Christmas, going back to a regular, mundane routine and then facing winter for another few months is enough to lower anybody’s spirits. A good way to alleviate that is to create things to look forward to. Music is one of the ways to lighten your winter blues.

In February, Rob is performing at the Rocky Mountain Folk Club in Calgary. He will be playing songs off his recent CD Biggest Moments as well as some of the older favorites.

Rob is first and foremost a storyteller. He has a keen eye for observance of the human condition and an ardent ear for putting it all to music.

A powerhouse in Edmonton’s songwriter community, Rob is tireless in his work with songwriters of every ilk, from the young beginners to seasoned pros.  Over the years, his songwriting has received many accolades including winning the New Folk competition at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival, and a Canadian Radio Music Award for “Songwriter of the Year”.

For many years, Rob has hosted a monthly Songwriter’s Circle once a month, giving Edmonton’s singer-songwriters a place where they can connect, get feedback on one of their songs and teach each other the tricks of the trade. In an inviting atmosphere where all levels of songwriters can receive positive feedback on their songs in a kind and nourishing way. During COVID, Rob had to do his Songwriting Circle on Zoom, thus expanding the attendance worldwide

His latest CD Biggest Moments was released February 26, 2022. They are the best 11 songs of the over 30+ songs that he cut and produced in his studio in downtown Edmonton. All but one song (“The Game” which is a co-write with Spencer Heath and the late Kathy Kirby and recorded by Stew Kirkwood at Sound Extractor) are produced, sung, played, recorded, and edited by Rob himself and mixed by long-time associate Cam Ambrose.

When not in his studio recording, he’s been fine-tuning his live show in anticipation of his upcoming concert at the Rocky Mountain Folk Club. Come check out Rob and his songs at the Rocky Mountain Folk Club on Friday, February 17. You won’t regret it!
