The Western Thistles

Saturday, May 16th

Join us for an evening of storytelling and shared connection through evocative original songs and traditional old-time tunes.

Alberta Parks is pleased to present The Western Thistles as featured artists for the 2026 season of Music in the Forest at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.

Known for their clawhammer banjo, rhythm guitar, and rich vocal harmonies, The Western Thistles blend old-time roots with modern-day storytelling, creating a sound that’s raw, resonant, and heartfelt. Their self-titled debut album, recorded live off the floor and co-produced by Miles Wilkinson (Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark), reached #26 on CKUA’s Top 100 most-played albums of 2025.

Doors open at 6:30

Music starts at 7:30

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
