The Seed Paintings

Friday, May 22nd - Saturday, May 23rd

The Seed Paintings by Jim Macgregor opens at Bay 1 Gallery on May 22. In this body of work, Macgregor reaches a pivotal point in his practice, shaped by decades of looking inward and learning to trust his process. Moving away from control, his paintings are less constructed and more allowed—closing the gap between thought and hand. The “seeds” emerge from this place: forms shaped by life’s influence, carried and transformed over time, now recognized and translated into a visual language—at times even legible. What began as intuitive mark-making has evolved, letting the seeds speak for themselves.

An accomplished Canadian artist, Macgregor’s asemic abstracts employ colour, texture, and restraint to create contemplative spaces that invite reflection and discovery. As a prolific writer, he also engages language as part of the work, offering layers of meaning from the “seeds” and stories of his own life.

The openings are:
Friday, May 22, 7–9 pm, with the artist present, live music by Kim Gates, Bay 1 bar, and treats and a quieter reception Saturday, May 23, 2–4 pm.

Look forward to seeing you here!

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
