The Oscar Lopez Trio

The Calgary Folk Club Presents Write-On In the Round with the Oscar Lopez Trio

Oscar López Trio
Born in Santiago, Chile but a Calgarian since 1981, Latin guitar legend Oscar López made a welcome return to music in 2025 and is back in full force with a new album, Ahora o Nunca (Now or Never). With six JUNO nominations culminating in two awards and side projects along the way including a Celtic-Latin duo with James Keelaghan in the early 1990s called Compadres, López has always followed his Muse with a restless fervour. The one constant in his career is his inspired, dynamic, passionate playing, which makes him an instant crowd favourite whenever he hits the stage. In full flight, there are few guitarists in the world who can match him for sheer incandescent virtuosity. Lean in and let the fire warm your soul.

Special Guest: WriteOn In the Round
An initiative launched several years ago by CFC supporters Nancy Laberge and Pip Hazell of the Backyard Betties to nurture and mentor aspiring local musicians, WriteOn is proudly sponsored as a legacy project by the Club. Three artists from the project’s most recent graduate cohort are invited to present in the round in recognition of their success in the program. Extend a warm welcome to these budding artists who represent folk music’s next generation!
