The Magic of Mozart & Mahler

Sunday, February 25th

Embark on a musical journey as two of Calgary’s finest musicians join forces with the Calgary Civic Symphony. Experience the brilliance of Slavko Popovic, principal clarinetist of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, as he performs Mozart’s only Clarinet Concerto. Composed in 1791, the year of Mozart’s death, this concerto marked his farewell to instrumental music, and is imbued with a profound creative mastery and emotional depth.

Following this iconic work, indulge in Mahler’s 4th Symphony – the shortest, most intimate, and most performed of his symphonies. Celebrated for its innocence and congeniality, the music takes us on a personal voyage through life and death, exploring themes of nature, the devil (played by a solo violin), and the saints. The finale features Canadian soprano Lauren Woods as she beautifully portrays a sublime view of Heaven viewed through the innocent eyes of a child.

Don’t miss this unforgettable collaboration of musical virtuosos and timeless compositions.

Tickets are $28 (adults) / $25 (seniors) / $19 (students) and are available online through artscommons.ca or at the door.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
