The Hymns and Songs of Wales

Saturday, January 17th

We are delighted to announce a unique concert event and Welsh tunes hymn festival. In January 2024, philanthropist Arnold Rumbold commissioned Edmonton composer Dr. Jacobus Kloppers to create a suite for solo organ, inspired by beloved hymns and songs, with a focus on Welsh traditions. The debut performance of this suite will be featured and choral renditions will be presented alongside opportunities for the audience to participate in singing many of the hymns.

Dr. Marnie Giesbrecht will perform and premiere the newly composed suite, Of Treasured Melodies: Suite for Organ Solo based on Omi Dei and Welsh Hymn Tunes and Songs. Dr. Joachim Segger will lead and accompany the singing on both the organ and piano.

The Choir of First Presbyterian Church, directed by Giesbrecht and Segger, will be joined by St. David’s Welsh Male Voice Choir, directed by Josiah Maxfield. Together, they will perform special arrangements and lead audience participation creating a memorable celebration of Welsh music and community spirit.

Tickets: $20 at the door.

Parking is available.

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
