The Fugitives w/ The Charms

Saturday, February 21st

Chinook Musical Society presents nine “Saturday Night Special” concerts every year, featuring a range of genres from folk and country, to blues, Celtic and folk rock. While we do present acts from all over North America, and some international, we are especially proud to showcase our Canadian and local Alberta artists.
The evening starts with one set from our opening artist, followed by two sets from our headliner.

On February 21, 2026 we’re in for a treat when we’ll be joined by JUNO-nominated acoustic folk-roots group The Fugitives and The Charms.

The Fugitives are headed by songwriters Adrian Glynn and Brendan McLeod, joined by banjo player Chris Suen (Viper Central) and violinist Carly Frey (The Coal Porters). With their first 5 albums they collected numerous Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards and a Juno nomination, and have toured extensively through Canada, Europe and the UK. The band has earned a reputation for unforgettable live shows brimming with complex harmonies, infectious storytelling and top-notch musicianship. As the CBC says, they are “simply brilliant.”

In 2020, the band created “Ridge”, a WW1-centered theatre show, which was named a Globe & Mail “Top Arts Pick of the Year”, and has toured to over 30 theatres across Canada. The band has earned a reputation for unforgettable live shows, brimming with complex harmonies, infectious storytelling and top-notch musicianship.

“The Fugitives are capable of achieving dizzying, Arcade Fire-ish crescendos, replete with parallel melodies, complex harmonies and brimming torrents of emotion.” — Uptown Magazine

Opening the evening will be The Charms! A multiple award-winning Roots/Americana duo who focus on original music and Canadian/American favorites featuring beautiful blended vocal harmonies and world class instrumentals.

The Charms are Calgary’s own: Denis Dufresne: on guitar, mandolin, fiddle & vox, and Megan Ann Konschuh: violin, guitar & vox.  Both are awarded and celebrated artists. They are live and session musicians who make their living as full time artists and musicians. Denis is a 7 time CCMA award winning musician and the current “Fiddle Player of the Year” and Megan is western Canada’s premier Bollywood violinist.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
