The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

Saturday, November 8th

The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, with Kappella Kyrie

Join Pro Coro Canada and guests Kappella Kyrie (dir. Melanie Turgeon) as we explore one of the most celebrated liturgies of the Eastern Christian tradition, full of heart and steeped in mysticism throughout the rich tapestry of sound.

Canadian composer Peter-Anthony Togni’s setting of The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is a call for compassion and charity in troubled times. John Chysostom was himself a famed speaker and prolific author of the early church, as well as the Archbishop of Constantinople, known for his emphasis on caring for the poor and less-fortunate in his homilies. While inspired by the classic setting of the liturgy by Rachmaninoff, Togni considers this setting as a prayer for peace in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Experience a profound and moving evening through the Alberta premiere of this beautiful work as we embark on a deeply spiritual and emotional journey together.

Venue: St Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, T5H 2M4

———————————————————————————-

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
