Spinning Tales: An Exhibition of Exceptional Artworks in Fibre
The ‘Spinning Tales: An Exhibition of Exceptional Artworks in Fibre’ runs March 11th to April 9th, with an opening reception on March 11th from 4-7 pm
‘Humanity’s relationship with fibre dates back to prehistory. In the 7th century BCE the Swiss Lake Dwellers began cultivating and weaving flax, and our dependence and interrelationship with fibre has been integral to our existence ever since. We are swaddled in it at birth; it is in our clothing, our homes, our libraries, our industries. Our global mythologies tell stories of gods and goddesses spinning our lives into existence, and references to it populate our languages. We find common threads. We are cut from the same cloth. We are are dyed in the wool.
Perhaps it’s this long practical relationship with fibre, its familiarity to us, that leaves it often overlooked as a fantastically versatile medium for art at its most expressive.
For this show a group of artists are Spinning Tales – using fibre to share a narrative they chose to explore. ‘
